Norwegian Cruise Line took delivery of Norwegian Prima at Fincantieri’s Marghera shipyard. The vessel is the first of six in all-new class of ship for the cruise line.
Present at the handover were Harry Sommer, president and CEO of NCL, Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, Ltd., and Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and managing director of Fincantieri.
"Today we usher in a thrilling new era in cruising as we celebrate the delivery of Norwegian Prima, the long-anticipated first ship in our extraordinary new Prima Class," Sommer said. "She is a true testament to our Guest First philosophy as well as our commitment to deliver unforgettable experiences that exceed expectations... We cannot wait to welcome our guests on board."
Norwegian Prima debuts later this month, with a naming ceremony in Iceland led by godmother Katy Perry. The 3,100-passenger ship features a three-level Go Kart racetrack, expanded Ocean Boulevard with multiple infinity pools, expanded The Haven with the line’s largest variety of suite categories spanning eight decks, an open-air food hall, and a Donna Summers-inspired musical in the main theater.
Following its inaugural voyage, Norwegian Prima will sail a series of eight-day voyages from Amsterdam and Copenhagen before repositioning to Caribbean cruises in October.
