MSC Cruises on Thursday announced that its newest U.S. flagship, MSC Seascape, will be christened and named at New York’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal in December.

The ship will be the first MSC ship ever to be named in New York, a city that is becoming incredibly important for the cruise line, which also expects to host year-round cruises from the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal beginning in April 2023.

“Having developed a meaningful operation out of South Florida, we are now preparing a major strategic expansion across the East Coast that will see us launch year-round cruises out of New York in 2023. We could not think of a better way of celebrating such a significant milestone than holding MSC Seascape’s – our latest flagship – naming ceremony in this wonderful city that has been an important hub for MSC Group for over three decades,” Pierfrancesco Vago, the executive chairman of the MSC Group said.

The first of two new MSC Cruises ships to launch in 2022, MSC Seascape will be the second Seaside EVO-class ship (and the fourth in the Seaside class). Like its sister-ship, MSC Seashore, Seascape can carry 5,877 guests. According to the line, nearly 70% of the public spaces will be completely re-designed to look different from MSC Seashore.

Other highlights include:

  • Outdoor Space: MSC Seascape will feature a whopping 139,930-square-feet of outdoor space, including a 1,772-square-foot promenade with al fresco dining.
  • Dining Choice: Cruisers on MSC Seascape will be able to choose from 11 dining venues and 19 bars.
  • High-Octane Activities: Onboard activities will include an F1 racecar simulator, virtual reality river rafting simulator, and immersive XD Cinema.
