United Airlines Adds Service from U.S. to Some Quarantine-Free Countries
by Daniel McCarthy
United Airlines on Monday announced that it was adding three new seasonal routes to European cities that are now open to Americans.
Starting in July, United will kick-off flights from Newark Liberty to Dubrovnik, Croatia from Washington Dulles to Athens, Greece; and from Chicago O’Hare to Reykjavik, Iceland.
The Dubrovnik service will operate three times weekly starting on July 8 while the Athens service will operate daily through Oct. 3 and the Reykjavik service will also operate daily through Oct. 3.
All flights will include access to United’s Travel-Ready Center that allows users to upload travel documents, including testing and vaccine documentation, and get it certified ahead of arrival at their outbound airport.
According to United, the decision to add the service came down to demand—in the last month, searches on the United website for flights to Croatia, Greece, and Iceland are up 61%.
"As countries around the world begin the process of reopening, leisure travelers are eager to take a long-awaited getaway to new international destinations," said Patrick Quayle, vice president of international network and alliances.
"These three new routes unlock the natural beauty of the outdoors for our guests. They are also the latest example of how United is remaining nimble in rebuilding our network."
The new routes are in addition to other additions that United has already announced including growing service to Tel Aviv from Chicago starting on May 7; the resumption of service from Newark to Rome and Milan starting in Mya; the resumption of service from San Francisco to Tahiti starting in June; and much more.
All three of the new routes are now available for booking.
