Air New Zealand implemented a new origin and destination revenue management system that will evaluate availability based on a passenger’s entire journey.
The system introducing “married segment logic” to allow Air New Zealand to better manage the O&D availability by joining connecting flights together and treating them as one unit, or “marriage.” The process has been in place for North American carriers for a number of years.
Air New Zealand roll out of the O&D system in staggered fashion across the network, with the following markets going live in mid-September:
- International: All markets from/to Canada, including travel via U.S. gateways.
- Domestic New Zealand: All markets from/to Dunedin and Invercargill.
Following a trial period on these markets, more routes will be gradually rolled out until the O&D system is implemented across the entire network by early 2017. Final dates and routes will be advised prior to migration.
An online module covering all aspects of the O&D revenue management system is available at http://www.airnztravelagent.com/training. It takes approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.
In addition, Air New Zealand has created an Origin and Destination Travel Agent Guide that covers making a new booking in the new system; how to recognize married segments in the PNR for each GDS; the six exception scenarios in which the marriage between segments can be broken, and frequently asked questions. The document is available at the Air New Zealand travel agent website.
