Alaska Airlines and Japan Airlines will begin a frequent-flier and codeshare partnership on June 29, making it easier for travelers to make reservations and check in to connecting flights, and to earn and redeem miles on both carriers.
Alaska executive vice president and chief commercial officer Andrew Harrison said the deal will greatly benefit California customers, as Alaska is currently in the process of buying San Francisco-, based Virgin America and already has over 1,200 weekly California departures.
The deal adds 600 flights daily in Japan to Alaska’s program, along with a number of flights departing from California, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington.
Alaska said it expects members of its Mileage Plan to earn points “early this summer” and to redeem them later in 2016.
