Americans Lighten Up, More Taking Vacations This Year
by Richard D'Ambrosio /While more Americans are taking vacation this year versus last, travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance USA says that a modest majority of U.S. citizens (53%) have not taken a vacation in the last 12 months.
Allianz noted that this year’s share of Americans not taking a vacation in the last year is down three points from 2015. The survey also revealed that 16% haven’t been on vacation in one to two years and 37% haven’t been on vacation in more than two years (down four points from 2015).
“Our findings show that Americans continue to be plagued by an alarming Vacation Deficit,” said Daniel Durazo, Allianz director of communications. The Vacation Confidence Index has been conducted each summer since 2010 by national polling firm Ipsos Public Affairs on behalf of Allianz. A vacation is defined as a leisure trip of at least a week to a place that is 100 miles or more from home.
