Australians Still Love Their Travel Agents
by Richard D'Ambrosio /An Australian affiliate of the ABC network recently reported that travel agents are alive and well down under, with an estimated 3,500 thriving due to complex overseas travel patterns and the unique nature of the island nation.
The story quotes Jayson Westbury, CEO of the Australian Federation of Travel Agents, saying that eight out of ten Australians still book through an agent because “stopovers, layovers, connecting flights and complex itineraries are part of the process.
“We are at the end of the line, and we're a long way from a lot of places,” Westbury told ABC.
Another expert says the industry has changed appreciably, but believes the internet has only made travelers more informed.
