Canada Seeks Citizen Feedback on Potential New Airline Rules
by Richard D’Ambrosio /
The Canadian Transportation Agency (CTA) this week launches a two-month-long process of in-person interviews with citizens, for their input on possible new airline rules.
The CTA is gathering airline passenger feedback through eight in-person sessions for Bill C-49 — the Transportation Modernization Act — which will cover airline compensation requirements for issues like flight cancellations, tarmac and flight delays, and lost baggage.
The process, which starts in Toronto this week, will traverse the country and wrap up at the end of August. The CTA, which is also gathering feedback through its website, said it may add additional in-person consultations if it deems them necessary.
So far, more than 4,500 Canadians have visited the website and more than 1,350 have completed a CTA online questionnaire.
Following the in-person consultations, the CTA will begin drafting regulations for submission to government regulators, though that process is likely to take many months.
