Canada Tourism Continues To Soar

Canada tourism celebrated its best summer in more than a decade this week at the annual Tourism Industry Association of Canada's (TIAC) Tourism Congress, noting highlights for the year, while announcing a new marketing partnership between Destination Canada and Air Canada.

"Tourism is outpacing global growth rates and creating quality jobs in every region of the country,” said Charlotte Bell, TIAC president and CEO, noting “tremendous growth opportunities from the United States, China and Mexico.”

Bardish Chagger, leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister of Small Business and Tourism, delivered a keynote address and congratulated Air Canada and Destination Canada on a first-ever three-year partnership to “collaborate on strategic marketing initiatives and events aimed at travel trade, consumer markets and the media.”

This year, the country was named the top destination for travel in 2017 by Lonely Planet and Banff was rated highly by National Geographic Traveler Magazine in its Best Trips list. TIAC estimates that tourism contributes C$90 billion annually to the Canadian economy.
