Celebrity Cruises this week took delivery of Celebrity Edge, a ship more than four years in the making, at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.
The occasion marks one of the final steps toward the debut of Edge, a ship that will set a new standard for Celebrity with the line’s first moving platform dubbed the Magic Carpet and four different main dining options.
“Today is a very special day for all of us as we have been eagerly anticipating this moment for more than four years,” said Celebrity president and CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo. “There are so many aspects of Celebrity Edge that are more groundbreaking than we could have ever imagined, and it is all a testament to the hard work, creativity and talent of everyone who helped bring this magnificent ship to life.”
The ship will now look toward Nov. 6, when it will begin its transatlantic voyage to Fort Lauderdale, spending its inaugural seasons sailing seven-night eastern and western Caribbean cruises. Its maiden western Caribbean itinerary is scheduled for Dec. 9. Edge will return to Europe in the fall.
