Coast Guard: Fire Door Problem Caused Fathom Cancellation
Fathom’s inaugural Dominican Republic cruise was cancelled because of a “problem with numerous sliding fire screen doors that are inoperable,” according to the U.S. Coast Guard in Miami.
Fathom’s Adonia failed multiple parts of its inspection, with the fire doors being the “most serious remaining problem.”
The ship was scheduled to depart from Miami on Monday but had to cancel because of the failed inspection. Fathom said the problems are being addressed and the April 17 sailing will go ahead as planned.
The Adonia is not a new ship; Carnival Corp. repurposed the 15-year-old ship, which formerly sailed for P&O Cruises in Britain. The Coast Guard requires that any foreign ship pass a safety inspection before sailing out of the United States.
