Cuba Aims To Meet Tourism Demand With 100,000 New Rooms
Cuba is adding 108,000 new hotel rooms in response to the country’s tourism boom, the tourism ministry announced last week.
The island nation has struggled to meet lodging demands as droves of American travelers flock to visit country since a new U.S. policy made it legal for individuals to travel there for “people to people” educational trips. This year alone, Cuba has already seen a million visitors, up nearly 15% from the same period from 2015.
The state’s tourism company plans to open 50,000 rooms by 2020 and the rest by 2030.
Both Starwood and Marriott have announced plans to operate hotels in Cuba.
