Delta Air Scrubs ‘Media Day,’ Citing Public Outrage Over Service

You know things aren’t going well for the airlines when a major carrier abruptly cancels a highly orchestrated event to showcase its products and services.
But that’s exactly what Delta Air Lines did this week, scrubbing its annual media confab on the eve of the event, which was to have taken place in New York City from May 10 to 12.
“We have made the difficult decision to postpone our International Media Day until later this year,” Delta said on its website. “With the recent focus by Congress on airline customer service issues that have gone viral on social media, we decided that the timing is not right to showcase Delta’s product innovations and global strategy.”
What the statement didn’t mention was that while United’s passenger-dragging episode has gotten most of the attention, Delta too was in the news last week after a family was booted from a flight in a dispute over seating.
