The Federal Aviation Administration moved up the date for Allegiant Air’s routine National Certificate Holder Evaluation from 2018 to 2016.
The reviews are typically done on each U.S.-certificated airline every five years, but the FAA said it wanted to ensure that “work the carrier is doing to address various internal issues has resulted in the desired improvements.” The evaluation is expected to be completed by late June.
At a press conference earlier this month, Allegiant CEO Maurice J. Gallagher Jr. acknowledged the carrier had “a bad summer” last year. In July, an Allegiant pilot requested an emergency landing at a partially closed airport in Fargo, ND, when the aircraft ran low on fuel. In August, the carrier aborted a takeoff at Las Vegas when the nose of the aircraft prematurely rose from the runway.
