French Strike To Disrupt Travel
A third strike this month by the French air traffic controllers on Friday is expected to cause headaches for European travel.
Air France said it expects to operate all long-haul flights, 80% of domestic flights to and from Paris Orly, and all flights to and from Paris Charles de Gaulle despite the strike, though it is expecting delays. It is allowing all passengers to postpone flights until April 30 at no extra cost.
Train service to Charles de Gaulle from Paris also will be affected, though 90% of trains across the country will be operating normally, according to France’s SNCF.
Other European airlines are also being affected by the strike. Sixty-two British Airways flights from London’s Gatwick and Heathrow airports have been canceled, with more expected as it gets closer to the 8 p.m. start time.
The French strike comes just days after a strike by German ground handlers, check-in and security services, and some fire brigades canceled over 900 Lufthansa flights on Wednesday.
