Holiday Cheer Hits Social Media

Some brands are running contests urging their followers to participate. Others have created specialized holiday photos and videos to appeal to potential consumers.
Here are some examples of how brands are making the most of the holiday spirit—and some ideas for social media-minded travel agents to spread their own cheer to clients this season.
A different kind of Christmas tree
Some typically mirthful brands took advantage of Christmas to put their brand identity on display.
Here, Virgin Atlantic shows a typically glamorous approach to the holidays. I don’t think there is eggnog in those bottles.
A Disney treasure hunt
December is always the biggest month of the year for Disney theme parks, as children and adults alike flock to the parks for the holidays.
Disney World asks its followers to guess the location of one of its many Christmas-themed attractions. And of course, many followers and Disney lovers responded.
The giving season
The holidays, of course, are a season for giving.
Carnival Cruise Line chose to highlight its support of children’s charities and asked its Facebook followers to contribute to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
AmaWaterways, as well, highlighted its charitable efforts.
A remembering… and a contest
American Airlines took to Facebook to ask their followers about their favorite Christmas films. The question garnered more than 1,000 likes. And American Airlines’ favorite holiday film? Home Alone, of course.
Who doesn’t like cookies?
Hotel brands are also looking to drive engagement during the holidays. Here, DoubleTree by Hilton is offering a contest based around its trademark chocolate chip cookies.
It even went so far as to combine its brand trademark with the iconography of Hanukkah.
Santa’s on board
Continuing its track record of clever viral videos, Air New Zealand incorporates Santa Claus himself into the company’s marketing. The message: Santa Claus is coming to town, on an Air New Zealand jet.
