Holland America Line will no longer allow its guests to smoke on cabin balconies.
Starting on Jan. 2, Holland America will begin initiating a fleetwide ban that will start with Maasdam and Rotterdam on Jan. 2, 2017 and end with Prinsendam on May 6, 2017.
Those wishing to smoke onboard will have to do so in select areas. According to a news release, the fine for violating the new policy will be a $250 cleaning fee per day of violation.
The cruise line will still allow guests to use e-cigarettes in designated smoking areas and in staterooms.
Holland America joins Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Carnival Cruise Line, all of which had banned balcony smoking in the last three years.
