Hurricane Joaquin Headed Up East Coast
Hurricane Joaquin intensified into a Category 4 storm as it made its way through the Bahamas on Thursday afternoon, changing the itineraries of a number of cruise ships sailing through the region:
- Carnival: the Carnival Valor will skip Grand Turk on Thursday and the Carnival Pride will skip Half Moon Cay in the Bahamas. Both ships will spend the day at sea instead.
- Princess: the Royal Princess will not stop at Princess Cays on Thursday.
- Disney: the Disney Magic will head to Key West instead of Castaway Cay.
- Norwegian: the Norwegian Getaway will stay at sea instead of stopping in Nassau.
Experts still aren’t sure if the storm will make landfall on the East Coast or turn and head out to sea, but New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has already declared a state of emergency for the Garden State, which was devastated by Hurricane Sandy three years ago.
