Intrepid Travel Adds North American Managing Director Ahead of Restart

Intrepid Travel on Monday announced that it was again welcoming Matthew Berna, the former U.S. president for Intrepid Travel, as the tour operator’s new managing director for North America.
Berna, a 25-year industry veteran, will head Intrepid’s Toronto headquarters and will oversee North American operations and employees based throughout Canada and the U.S. His role will include Intrepid’s direct and industry sales strategies in North America, including its B2B white-label sales.
According to Brett Mitchell, Intrepid’s chief sales officer, the move puts the “right structure in place” for the post-pandemic world.
“As we solidify our strategic plan for the next several years, taking into account the impacts COVID has had on both the travel industry and our business, it’s important that we have the right structure in place. The operational expertise Matt possesses, along with his tenure within the tourism sector and our business, allows him to lead our North American team with clear direction and bring even more sustainable and responsible trip offerings to our American and Canadian customers.”
Berna’s career includes stints as the managing director of TrekAmerica Travel; the managing director at The Adventure Company; a little more than five years as the president of Intrepid Travel U.S.; and, most recently, almost a decade as the GM of global sales with Peak DMC.
