Manulife Offers Simplified Travel Insurance
At a time when Canadian travel insurance is under scrutiny for being confusing and complex, Manulife has launched the Manulife Premium Protection Plan, reducing the policy from 40 pages to 14, and eliminating 37 exclusions.
Manulife also removed pre-existing condition clauses and stability periods often associated with travel insurance, reduced 24 definitions traditionally needed to define and interpret coverage, and simplified the pricing by eliminating complex rate tables.
The Canadian Council of Insurance Regulators (CCIR) has published an issues paper and recently closed a three-month public comment period as it considers possible recommendations to make travel insurance less confusing for agents to sell and for consumers to purchase.
Manulife Premium Protection offers coverage for trip cancellation, trip interruption, emergency medical, baggage loss and delay and accident insurance, and is available to Canadian travelers who have valid government health insurance coverage, are 69 years of age or younger, and insures a trip value of up to $30,000. The coverage must be purchased from the travel agent within 72 hours of booking the trip.
