Montreal Tourism Remains Strong Through First Half Of Year
The introduction last year of direct non-stop air service to Beijing has led to a 197% increase in Chinese visiting Montreal through the first five months of 2016, buoying strong growth in inbound leisure travel to the Canadian city, according to data compiled by Tourisme Montréal.
Tourisme Montreal reported that the number of Americans entering the country by car at the Quebec border rose nearly 21% January-May, and that tourists from Germany increased 16.5% during that period. There were 7% more British visitors and 4.1% more French, Swiss and Belgian arrivals.
The gains are the result of a number of initiatives. For example, Air China and Air Canada jointly launched the first-ever non-stop service to Beijing last year. Tourisme Montréal launched its "Montréal Ignites" campaign in New York at the beginning of the summer. Featuring the tagline "Meet the other city that never sleeps," the campaign has been targeting American millennials.
