by Daniel McCarthy /
Norwegian Cruise Line’s first cruise ship designed specifically for China, Norwegian Joy, was floated out of Meyer Werft’s German shipyard this weekend.
The ship, the second in Norwegian’s Breakaway Plus class, has been under construction since September 2015 and will now move into its final phase. It is expected to be delivered on April 27 and officially enter service later this summer, homeporting in Shanghai and Beijing (Tianjin).
Joy will accommodate 3,850 guests. It will include Norwegian’s luxury experience, The Haven, and a number of firsts at sea including a two-level competitive racetrack, an open-air laser tag course, similar rides, hover craft bumper cars and the line’s largest upscale shopping district.
