Norwegian Cruise Line Picks Up Options for Two New Ships

Norwegian Cruise Line has officially added a fifth and sixth ship to its Project Leonardo Class order with Fincantieri shipbuilders.
The two additional ships will be delivered in 2026 and 2027; the other Project Leonardo Class ships are expected to be delivered every June starting in 2022.
Each of the 140,000-gross ton ships will be able to sail with 3,300 guests.
“The highly anticipated Leonardo Class will fuel future growth with exciting and innovative offerings that will meaningfully drive demand from new and loyal returning guests alike,” said Andy Stuart, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line.
The ships are being built with a focus toward reducing Norwegian’s environmental impact and optimizing fuel consumption. Norwegian hopes that focus, when combined with the size of the ships, will broaden its international deployment and allow the cruise line to enter smaller ports around the world.
During the initial announcement of Project Leonardo last year, Norwegian revealed that the ships would all feature huge lower decks, which Frank Del Rio, president and CEO of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd., called “Beach Decks,” with infinity pools and restaurants.
In total, Norwegian Cruise Line has seven ships on order, including Norwegian Encore, which is expected to be delivered in the fall of 2019.
