The Port Authority of NY and NJ is warning the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) that if security lines at its airports don’t speed up, it will look to the private sector to start screening passengers.
In a letter sent to the TSA, director of the Port Authority’s Aviation Department Thomas Bosco said that long wait times are causing passengers to miss flights. "We can no longer tolerate the continuing inadequacy of TSA passenger screening services…Long waits are prompting complaints from passengers, terminal operators, and airlines alike,” the letter read.
New York wouldn’t be the first major market to move to private security as San Francisco and Kansas City have both made the change.
