Sabre Invites Developers to ‘Reinvent Travel’
by Michele McDonald /The Sabre Dev Studio is giving technology developers 24 hours to “reinvent travel.”
The studio, Sabre Travel Network’s online collection of APIs and other tools aimed at spurring developers’ creativity, is holding a hackathon at its headquarters near Dallas and online on Aug. 1 and 2.
At noon on Aug. 1, registered teams of up to five people will start “hacking” – writing code to meet one of four challenges:
• social collaboration;
• integrating travel with other verticals;
• data-driven personalization;
• creating a unique product using three or more APIs.
Code must be fresh
The code must be fresh, although participants can work on designs beforehand, such as digital mockups, open source frameworks or anything else that is available to everyone.
Participants must be able to demonstrate their hacks in order to present their results. No PowerPoints will be allowed.
“Don’t be scared if you didn’t finish, just show us what you got done,” the rules state.
Judging & prizes
The results will be judged with equal weight given to technical quality, design, how well the challenge is met and originality.
The first prize is $5,000 in cash and a $10,000 credit for use of Sabre APIs.
Each winner will receive a $1,000 Apple or Amazon gift card.
Contestants who join the event in person also will have the opportunity to win technology gear.
The hackathon is open to residents of the U.S. and Canada. Sabre plans to offer other events in other countries.
