According to the Port Authority, the crash happened at about 4 p.m. and took hours to resolve. At one point, 1,500 customers were on line waiting to be checked in at the terminal, which is operated by British Airways.
In a statement, British Airways apologized for the inconvenience and said that things were “running again as normal” on Monday, though several airlines were still checking people in manually.
The delays made Memorial Day travel tougher for people who were already expecting headaches because of delays at security lines around the country, though complaints about the lines were few.
