Travel Institute Launches Well-Being Travel Specialist Course

by Maria Lenhart  May 23, 2013

The first-ever specialist course on medical and wellness travel for travel agents has been launched by The Travel Institute in partnership with Well-Being Travel.

“We are very excited to have launched this new course in an exclusive partnership with The Travel Institute,” said Anne Marie Moebes, executive vice president of Well-Being Travel, a sister company to Travel Market Report.

“We created this program to help travel professionals take advantage of a very lucrative travel niche and are confident that the course, coupled with membership to Well-Being Travel, will leave participating agents in good stead within the industry.”

Course details
The online course is offered in a series of three on-demand modules, including interactive exercises, images, audio, graphics and testing.

The modules will explore selling health and wellness vacations, selling medical travel, and a how-to session on successful marketing tactics.

The cost for the program is $99.

Benefits & value-adds
Travel professionals who register by the end of August will receive value-added benefits including:

– Opportunity to participate in Well-Being fam trips hosted by Greater Fort Lauderdale, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council

– Complimentary membership to Well-Being Travel ($99 value).

Participants will earn 10 continuing education credits from The Travel Institute upon completion of the course.

Course partners
The Travel Institute was responsible for developing and writing the course and its online test. The institute also will administer the course and be in charge of certifying successful candidates as Well-Being Travel specialists.

As part of its partnership with The Travel Institute, Well-Being Travel assisted in developing the course by providing guidance, information and learning objectives. Well-Being Travel is a membership organization open to all agents that provides training and education and, through its supplier partnerships, supports member agents in serving medical travelers.

Program sponsors include Companion Global Healthcare, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Healing Hotels of the World, Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Greater Fort Lauderdale.

Initial response
According to Patty Noonan, CTC, director of sales at The Travel Institute, initial response to the course has been “terrific.”

“We’re very happy to have partnered with Well-Being Travel for this initiative,” she said. “As health, wellness and medical travel experts who share our same core values about the success of the travel agent community, it was a natural fit. I look forward to seeing the relationship grow.”
