Update: Airports have reopened.
Saint Lucia’s Hewannorra International Airport and George F. Charles Airport were forced to close because of Tropical Storm Matthew on Wednesday and remain closed on Thursday morning. Both airports closed around noon local time because of strong winds.
Barbados’s Grantley Adams International Airport closed on Tuesday night and remained closed into Thursday.
According to the National Hurricane Center, the storm could turn into a hurricane by Friday. The Center isn’t sure about the storm’s path, however, and said it was too early to say if it would make landfill over Jamaica, Cuba or Florida.
