UK Hotel Occupancy Dips
by Jessica Montevago /The UK hotel market only grew by about 1% in the first quarter of 2016
A new study from HVS, AlixPartners, and AM:PM, which looked at 12 cities, found the country’s smallest increase since 2012. Experts say the numbers point to a plateau in British hotel occupancy that, if it continues, likely will cause suppliers to cut rates to boost demand.
In London, occupancy dropped nearly 1%, to 80%, for April, according to another study from research firm STR. The drop is due to the ongoing threat of terrorism and supply outpacing demand, STR analysts said.
