United Airlines said it will start flying nonstop from Los Angeles to Singapore on Oct. 27, a route the carrier says will be the world’s longest flight operating to the United States in terms of mileage.

Like the San Francisco service, the new flight will be via Boeing 787-900 Dreamliner, one of the latest versions of the fuel-efficient airliner, which is giving airlines a fresh incentive to get into more ultra-long haul routes.
And long they are: Flying in the direction of Singapore, United’s new LA flight will be in the air nearly 18 hours straight
