The Shanghai Disney Resort kicked off its three-day opening celebration today.
Festivities began with the global premiere of the first Mandarin production of The Lion King at the 1,200-seat Walt Disney Grand Theatre in Disneytown, followed by a concert at the Enchanted Storybook Castle tomorrow. On Thursday there will be a dedication ceremony to officially open the park to guests.
The 963-acre Magic Kingdom-style theme park has six themed lands, including Adventure Isle, Gardens of Imagination, Mickey Avenue, Tomorrowland, Treasure Cove, and Fantasyland. The resort also has two hotels; a shopping, dining, and entertainment district; and a 98-acre recreational area called Wishing Star Park.
The project is a collaboration among Disney, the Shanghai Municipal Government, and the Shanghai Shendi Group.
The Shanghai Disney Resort is Walt Disney’s sixth resort worldwide and the first in mainland China.
