Travel agencies can use a new tool to book commissionable shore excursions through the Viator Partner Program. Viator is an aggregator of tours and activities around the world.
The tool is designed to cope with the complexities of shore excursion bookings, offering only relevant tours and activities, based on the specific itinerary of the cruise ship.
When an agent selects the cruise line, ship name and departure date, Viator will load the cruise ship’s itinerary and present only those excursions that work for each port of call, based on arrival and departure times and availability.
Available itineraries include those of Carnival Cruises, Costa Cruises, Holland America, MSC Cruises, Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean. More than 500 shore excursions are featured in more than 80 popular ports.
Commissions, price savings
In order to earn commissions, agents must join the Partner Program and book through authorized outlets. Most U.S. agents would book through the ARC Marketplace. AAA and CAA agents have their own outlets.
Viator says its shore excursion program offers tours and activities that are up to 60% less expensive than those offered through cruise lines.
It also addresses a concern of passengers who book outside cruise line programs: If a passenger misses the ship because of a Viator excursion, Viator will provide transport to the next port of call at no cost to the traveler.
