Viva by Wyndham to Open New Resort in Dominican Republic
by Briana Bonfiglio /Viva Resorts by Wyndham will open a new property in Miches, Dominican Republic in December.
This will be the brand’s ninth resort, adding its portfolio in Mexico, Dominican Republic, and the Bahamas. Miches has been an up-and-coming destination for the past few years, with opportunities for both active and relaxing vacations on its pristine beaches.
“It’s going to be a happy place full of families and all ages,” Erika Sordo, Viva Resorts by Wyndham’s corporate director, told TMR. “The novelty of building a hotel in 2024 from scratch is going to be a major selling point.
“Also, in that area, most of the [other] resorts being built are luxury hotels,” she noted. “So that will also give us a sales advantage because we will be a 4-plus, [meaning travelers] will be with all the premium resorts in the area but can pay less and have the best time.”
Accommodations
Come Dec. 11, 2024, Viva Miches by Wyndham will begin welcoming guests from around the world, as the Viva brand is known to attract not only North Americans but vacationers from all over and has a multilingual staff.
The 538-room resort offers six room categories: comfort, superior, ocean view, oceanfront (includes a private balcony or terrace), splash ocean view (includes a private balcony or terrace and a private plunge pool), and splash oceanfront (includes a private plunge pool).
Rooms all have earthy tones – blues, tans, and greens – to match the ocean, sands, and lush greenery found in Miches.
Restaurants
Every Viva resort has a main buffet restaurant, and Miches will be no different. Buffet menu changes daily. There will also be five a la carte dining options: a Latin fusion venue inspired by Latin American fruit stands, an Asian fusion restaurant, a seafood spot called Atlantis, a Mediterranean restaurant, and a creperie to fill up on dessert.
The resort will be well equipped to hold weddings, just as other Viva resorts have done in the brand’s past 20-plus years with Wyndham. Though now, Sordo said, resort weddings are becoming even more popular.
“We have been getting many requests for weddings in this location,” she said. “We have very competitive prices. We have basic packages for weddings starting at 10 people and then going up, and you can customize whatever you like.”
Public spaces
Viva Miches will have a kids and teens club (which will include a wet play area), snack bars, shops, lounges, and a main pool overlooking the ocean with a swim-up bar. Viva will also offer its signature Viva Vibe party program and entertainment such as silent discos and foam parties.
Sordo noted that Viva resorts attract many types of guests – from those who want to work remotely at the pool or beachside, to those who want adventure, to those seeking relaxation with their family.
“There’s a lot of opportunities and there’s all different types of personalities at our resorts – there are the more party oriented, adults oriented, couples, there’s a very wide variety,” she said.
Excursions
There are several ways for guests to have fun both at the resort and outside of it. The resort offers snorkeling, yoga, tennis, kayaking, oceanfront massages and more. But for those looking to explore more of Miches, Viva will gladly accommodate.
“We highly motivate excursions because that way people get to get a sense of place,” Sordo said. “For example, in Miches, there are many water excursions like seasonal whale watching from January through March every year.”
Whale watching is just one exciting activity; there are also nature trails through Miche’s lush vegetation, boat trips to hidden coves and coral reefs, trips to Los Haitises National Park, and tours of Montana Redonda, a popular tourist spot.
The resort is located just under 90 minutes from Punta Cana International Airport.
