Abercrombie & Kent Adds North Pole Cruise Departure to 2024 Schedule
by Daniel McCarthy /Abercrombie & Kent (A&K), the luxury adventure travel operator, will add another bucket-list destination to its 2024 schedule—the North Pole.
A&K will operate an inaugural departure of the new tour, North Pole Expedition Cruise: The Ultimate Frontier, on July 10, 2024.
The 17-day tour will take guests on the luxury icebreaker, Le Commandant Charcot, staffed with A&K’s luxury expedition team, to the geographic North Pole, following the footsteps of some legendary explorers including Matthew Henson, Robert Peary, Frederick Cook, Roald Amundsen, and more.
The departure will take guests through the marginal ice zone, to 90° North latitude, which marks the geographic North Pole. The ship will overnight there and guests will get the chance to walk onto the ice’s surface for photo ops and a polar plunge.
Days at sea include enrichment programs, which A&K says is “akin to a grown-up semester-at-sea. The program includes lectures and hands-on research programs, along with visits to the ship’s lab and bridge, stargazing sessions, and more. Guests will also be able to kayak through the surrounding waters.
“We have taken what not too long ago was a long, arduous expedition, and transformed it into a luxury adventure, featuring A&K’s Expedition Team made up of the foremost Polar cruising experts, aboard ‘Le Commandant Charcot,’ one of the world’s most advanced and eco-friendly polar expedition vessels,” Stefanie Schmudde, A&K VP of Product Development and Operations said.
The departure is all-inclusive—all onboard amenities including Wi-Fi, gratuity, and laundry, along with a series of lectures onboard and curated shore excursions ashore, are included in the price.
