Lufthansa this week made it known that it was interested in acquiring German airline, Condor, one of the carriers that are part of the Thomas Cook Group.

While Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr said that it was interested in acquiring all of Thomas Cook’s airlines — which include British, Scandinavian, and Spanish operation — he also said it was unlikely due to antitrust laws.

“We decided yesterday in the meeting of the management board to bid for all of Condor with the option to be able to extend this [bid] to all Thomas Cook airlines,” Spohr said, according to Reuters.

There was no word on how much Lufthansa would bid for Condor.

Lufthansa most recently launched seasonal daily Toronto-Munich flights on its flagship A350-900, bringing what it calls the world's most state-of-the-art, long-haul aircraft to Toronto for the first time.

Daily flights depart Toronto at 8:25 p.m. and arrive in Munich, Lufthansa's secondary hub, at 10 a.m. the following day. Return flights depart Munich at 3:40 p.m. and arrive in Toronto at 6:35 p.m. the same day.

Lufthansa also ran a contest to help Canadian travel advisors learn more about what makes the A350-900 unique. Advisors were asked questions about the aircraft features and they receive more information about the features in the answers.
