Air Transat rebaptise l’océan Atlantique l’océan Canadien

Air Transat annonce qu’elle change officiellement le nom de l’océan Atlantique. À compter d’aujourd’hui, les annonces à bord des vols d’Air Transat y référeront comme l’océan Canadien. Afin de rallier un soutien national, la compagnie lance également une pétition pour que le changement de nom devienne permanent sur les cartes et documents officiels du gouvernement.

L’initiative a été célébrée en vol hier soir, lors du tout premier passage au-dessus de l’océan désormais baptisé Canadien, soit pendant l’une des 184 traversées qu’Air Transat effectue chaque semaine. Les passagères et passagers à bord ont eu droit à des certificats commémoratifs et à la première annonce officielle en vol, marquant ce moment historique.

« Depuis maintenant plus de 37 ans, nous volons à la montréalaise : avec audace, joie de vivre et une touche d’humour, a déclaré Xavier Szwengler, vice-président, marketing et fidélisation chez Transat. En tant que transporteur fièrement canadien, nous voulons célébrer ce moment avec les Canadiennes et Canadiens, à une époque où nous redécouvrons et affirmons notre culture et notre identité. »

Pour marquer l’occasion, Air Transat prend d’assaut Sankofa Square (anciennement Yonge-Dundas Square) à Toronto, dévoilant ainsi le changement de nom au grand public.
