Sandals Delays Royal Curacao Opening to June

Guests will have to wait a little longer to get a taste of the newest Sandals Resort.

Sandals on Tuesday announced that Sandals Royal Curacao, the brand’s 16th overall resort and first in Curacao, will now open on June 1, 2022, a six-and-a-half-week delay from its original date.

Sandals, in a letter to travel advisors, said that while the resort is nearing completion, supply chain issues and shipping delays have required it to push back the delay to June.

“While we have done everything within our power to avoid this delay, what is in our control, is our response to this setback, and on this point, I speak on behalf of the entire Sandals leadership team when I say, we will make this right, protecting our valued partners and guests who choose to vacation with us,” the letter reads.

Sandals will allow those who have reservations impacted by the delay to move their booking to another Sandals resort free of charge or rebook at the Curacao resort at a later date. Sandals promised to cover all necessary airfare changes up to $600 per person in the same class of service.

Sandals will gift impacted guests a $250 resort credit to use at its Red Lane Spa or for Island Routes Tours, along with future stay credits for their next booking—those with reservations of 1 to 4 nights will receive a one-night room credit, while those with reservations of 5 nights or more will receive a two-night credit.

The resort opened bookings in August. It is built on a 44-acre area within the larger, 3,000-acre protected Santa Barbara Beach Resort in Curacao. Its location, within that private preserve, will allow guests to bike, hike, picnic, and spend time discovering the nature that surrounds the resort.

When it does debut, the resort will include 351 rooms and suites in 24 different categories, offering more all-inclusive options than any other Sandals property, including two new suite categories—the Awa Seaside Butler Bungalows and Kurason Island Poolside Butler Bungalows.

The resort will also be home to Sandal’s first-ever Dos Awa infinity pool, with views overlooking the surrounding area, and the brand’s first-ever floating restaurant and bar called The Duchess.

In total, Sandals Royal Curacao will offer nine on-site five-star restaurants. Eight of those will be exclusive to the property, including an authentic wine and Dutch cheese bar.

Other offerings will include three different oceanfront wedding venues, a Red Lane Spa with six outdoor spa cabanas and treatment rooms, access to the neighboring Pete Dye 18-hole golf course, meeting space, and two marinas and 70 different dive sites.
