The Broadmoor and Sea Island Hotels Head to Sea with Suites on Windstar Cruises
by Dori Saltzman /Five-star hotels, The Broadmoor and Sea Island, are expanding their reach with themed suites onboard Windstar ships. The Broadmoor Suite and the Sea Island Suite replace the deck 5 forward “Classic Suites” category on Windstar’s Plus-Class yachts.
“Unlike hotel brands that have begun offering yacht-style cruises, this is a unique example of a cruise line bringing a separate land-based experienced to sea,” said Windstar president Christopher Prelog. “It connects and cross-sells a diverse and seemingly unrelated set of travel experiences that have shared ownership.”
(Both hotel brands and Windstar Cruises are owned by The Anschutz Corporation.)
While inspired by their namesakes, they are not exact replications.
Sea Island Suite
In the Sea Island Suite, cruisers will find elegant touches that evoke the Georgia property’s Addison Mizner design including curved arches, light walls and wood furnishings.
“The overall look is quite coastal and airy – colors like sea-glass green are used throughout,” Prelog said.
Broadmoor Suite
The Broadmoor Suite has a more traditional feel with white trim and gold finishes and wide crown molding, but evokes the hotel’s Colorado Springs location with floral motifs.
The wallpaper in the suite is an exact replica of the wallpaper used at The Broadmoor Main Building.
Currently found only on Star Legend, the suites will be rolled out to Star Breeze this spring and Star Pride in 2024.
