Windstar Cruises Kicks Off Multi-Million Dollar Refurb of Sailing Ships
by Dori Saltzman /Windstar Cruises is putting its fleet of three sailing ships under the knife with a multi-year, multi-million dollar refurbishment program that kicks off with the 148-guest Wind Star.
“Our sailing ships are beloved by Windstar guests,” said Windstar president Christopher Prelog. “Being on the ship under sail is unforgettable and brings an element of freedom and romance to every voyage.”
The full project encompasses a full redesign of all public spaces with new layouts, furniture, wall and floor coverings, lighting and custom art. Guest staterooms, premium suites, and owner’s suites will be fully refurbished including new furniture, interactive TVs, and décor.
“This multi-year, multi-million dollar initiative is all about providing guests with updated spaces that inspire relaxation, foster connection, and offer multifunctional needs of an intimate sized sailing yacht,” said Stijn Creupelandt, vice president of hotel operations and product development for Windstar.
Wind Star has already completed the first phase of its refurbishment, which included a redesign of the main lounge to create a living room-like ambiance, and an expansion of the pool deck that included the removal of the skylight and the addition of a new pool and Jacuzzi. New furniture was also added to the pool deck. The ship’s spa and fitness center were also redone with all new color palettes and gym equipment. The ship’s lobby area was also expanded to create a larger reception space with added seating and more retail space.
Wind Star is currently in Lisbon, readying to welcome guests back onboard. A second phase will include refurbishments to the remaining staterooms and dining venues in 2026.
Wind Spirit will be fully renovated in 2025, while Wind Surf will be refurbished in two phases – in 2024 and 2026.
