The Canadian government has issued a travel warning for those intending to visit Thailand, due to ongoing demonstrations and the increased risk of violence in some areas of the country.

The advisory warns travelers to exercise a high degree of caution because of ongoing political tensions and sporadic demonstrations in Bangkok and elsewhere in the country. It also warned people to avoid all travel to the Southern provinces of Narathiwat, Pattani, Songkhla and Yala, in light of criminally and politically motivated violent incidents.

The Canadian government states that this travel advisory has been issued after multiple explosions have been reported in three locations in Bangkok, wherein four people have been injured after six bombs detonated during the high-level annual meeting of foreign ministers.

The government warns any Canadians that are currently in this area to remain aware at all times and follow the advice of local authorities.

Additionally, the Public Health Agency of Canada has issued advice for travelers on the Zika virus, recommending that Canadians practice special health precautions while traveling to Thailand and other affected countries.
