The Surrey, a Corinthia Hotel, officially opened its doors on Manhattan’s Upper East Side on Friday at 20 E. 76th St.
The hotel is the first North American property for London-based Corinthia Hotels, a boutique hotel company with locations in Rome, Brussels, Bucharest, Doha, and more. While the hotel marks Corinthia’s debut in the U.S., the building itself is over 100 years old and has been fully transformed by the Corinthia team.
The hotel says it is targeting travelers and locals seeking a “chic high-end lifestyle experience” with a residential layout, curated art collection, vintage-inspired windows, and the “inviting ambiance of an Upper East Side home.” The goal, according to Managing Director Pradeep Raman, is to become a “cultural mainstay” in the neighborhood.
The Surrey offers 70 guest rooms, 30 suites, and 14 private residences a block away from Fifth Avenue and Central Park. The suites range from 1,200 to 1,300 square feet, except for the signature Surrey Suite, which is inspired by Bow Bridge and spans 2,000 square feet. Guests in suites can also opt for complimentary butler service.
The hotel’s public restaurant, Casa Tua, serves Italian and Mediterranean cuisine in an open kitchen environment. It is open all day, seven days a week, and features dishes such as Nut-Crusted Salmon with Lemon Aioli, Branzino al Sale, and Spaghetti alla Nerano. There is also a separate chef’s table and a private members’ club on the hotel’s second floor.

Outside of Casa Tua, The Surrey also features an adjacent lounge near the lobby called The Lounge.
More could come from Corinthia in North America. Simon Casson, the company’s CEO, said The Surrey will serve as Corinthia’s flagship for its “next chapter.”
“We see this hotel as a love letter to New York and a beacon of the city’s creative spirit. As we embark on global growth, The Surrey is in many ways a new flagship, representative of the warm familial spirit of Corinthia that makes all guests feel perfectly at home,” Casson said.
