Tauck Releases Details of Spitsbergen “Arctic Allure” Itineraries
by Daniel McCarthy /Tauck’s new 10-day “Arctic Allure: Spitsbergen and the Midnight Sun” itinerary will explore the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, deep inside the Arctic Circle.
Svaldbard, which is located roughly halfway between Norway and the North Pole, is home to more than 3,000 polar bears, as well as Arctic foxes, Arctic moose, Svalbard reindeer, and 30 species of birds. It houses six national parks filled with glaciers, mountains, and fjords.
Tauck will sail the itinerary just once in 2019 on June 24. All tickets include a pre-cruise overnight stay in Oslo followed by a charter flight from Oslo to Longyearbyen. Guests will have the opportunity to visit Ny-Alesund, the most northerly vivlian settlement in the world, Monaco Glacier, Kongsbreen, and Pyramiden, a ghost town that once housed a Russian coal mining village.
The sailing will take place on Le Boreal, the Ponant ship that Tauck is able to sail through a partnership between the two brands. That partnership has allowed Tauck to grow its passenger volume by 40 percent in 2019.
Thew new itinerary is part of Tauck offering more choices than ever, including options for cruisers wanting to be active during their sailing and more options for families wanting to take a river cruise with an extended family.
“We find that guests want a more personalized experience and choice is part of that. Now you can be as active as you want to be,” Senior Vice President of River and Small Ship Cruising Katharine Bonner told TMR during last month’s CLIA Cruise 360 conference said. “Our Bridges family product is a great product for that. Traveling with young children, it’s a much easier way for parents and grandparents to travel.”
