American Airlines is providing more flexibility to customers by extending its previously announced change fee waiver.

Originally, the carrier had announced it would waive change fees for tickets purchased through May 31, but with demand for summer travel appearing to be on the rise, the carrier has decided to extend the offer for customers who purchase tickets by June 30, 2020, for travel through Sept. 30, 2020.

As part of the offer, customers will also be allowed to change their origin and destination cities. All AAdvantage award tickets are included in this offer, and travel must be completed by Dec. 31, 2021.

The airline is also taking additional steps to ensure the health and safety of guests and employees.

It has expanded the frequency of cleaning in commonly used areas in the airports, including; gates, ticket counters, passenger services counters, baggage service offices and team member rooms. Customers and employees are required to wear face masks throughout their journey, and the airline will enhance aircraft cleaning, provide sanitizing wipes and gel for customers, and reduced interactions between flight attendants and customers by limiting food and beverage delivery.

The carrier will also continue to limit capacity aboard each aircraft, while having Customer Service agents reassign seats to create more space between customers or to accommodate families who need to be seated together.
