Scott Kirby has left his post as president of American Airlines and moved into the same job at United Airlines.
Robert Isom, chief operating officer of American, was named president, effective immediately.
Kirby had been with the current management team at American since 1995, when they were at America West.
US Airways merged with America West in 2005, and Kirby was named president. He became president of American Airlines in 2013, when it merged with US Airways.
Isom began his airline career at Northwest Airlines in 1991. He joined US Airways as chief operating officer in 2007 and was credited with the turnaround of its operating performance and reliability. He became chief operating officer of American Airlines after the merger. He will continue to oversee the airline’s operations.
