House Passes Bill To Alleviate Airport Security Wait Times
by Daniel McCarthy /A new bill designed to reduce wait times at airport security checkpoints was unanimously passed by the U.S. House of Representatives yesterday.
The Checkpoint Optimization and Efficiency Act of 2016 will require the TSA to keep a minimum number of staff on its payroll and allow it to move them around in order to speed up screening. The bill also allows canine teams to screen passengers during high-traffic periods.
U.S. Travel Association CEO Roger Dow praised the bill, saying it takes a "common-sense approach to reducing airport security wait times by ensuring that all TSA checkpoints are properly staffed.”
The TSA has come under scrutiny as wait times at security checkpoints around the country continue to increase. Last month, it removed its head of security Kelly Hoggan from his post because of “mismanagement.”
