Norwegian Reports Strong Wave Season After Big 2015
Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings is having a strong wave season, thanks to high demand for the Caribbean and Alaska, CEO and president Frank Del Rio said during its 2015 earnings call on Tuesday.
Norwegian reported a net income of $427.1 million for 2015, up from the $338.3 million. Revenue was also up, to $4.3 billion.
"By all accounts, 2015 was a truly successful year for Norwegian," Del Rio said. “Our core itineraries in the Caribbean, Alaska and Bermuda are performing strongly, and more than make up for softness in the Mediterranean region.”
Del Rio cited higher cruise prices, increased onboard revenue, and the debut of the Norwegian Escape in November.
This year should prove to be strong as well. In January, president and COO Andy Stuart said Norwegian will spend $400 million over the next four years to refurbish 11 ships and expand its culinary programs.
Norwegian’s other brands will add two more ships in 2016, as Oceania debuts the Sirena in March and Regent Seven Seas adds the Seven Seas Explorer later in the year.
