Ponant Evacuates Ship After Fire
Hundreds of passengers on Ponant’s Le Boreal ship were forced to evacuate when an engine fire erupted when the vessel was at sea. The fire happened a little after 2 a.m. north of the Falkland Islands at the beginning of a 15-night round-trip Antarctica sailing from Ushuaia, Argentina. According to ITV, 90 of the 347 passengers onboard were air-lifted to safety from life rafts while the rest were picked up by another ship. No passengers were injured. The cruise will re-embark on L’Austral, another Ponant ship.
