Tianguis Turistico Rescheduled for September Amid COVID-19 Worries
by Daine Taylor /The 45th annual Tianguis Turístico event, which was scheduled to take place from March 22-25, has been rescheduled out of an abundance of caution regarding the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
“In light of the World Health Organization declaration of a global pandemic, which has forced various public and private organizations to take drastic measures that complicate the execution of an event of this nature, and to ensure the safety and care of all citizens and Tianguis participants, as well as to guarantee its success, we have decided that the 2020 Tianguis Turístico will be rescheduled to take place in Mérida, Yucatán state, from September 19 to 22 of this year,” said the Organizing Committee of the Tianguis Turístico in a statement.
The event is one of the most important for the Mexican Tourism Industry, attracting tour operators, wholesalers, travel agents and tourism associations from all over the world, and featuring more than 600 exhibitors. This will also be the first time the event has been held at Merida, Yucatán.
"There is no doubt that the Yucatecans will be ready and we will prepare ourselves even more to make, together, an unforgettable Tianguis,” said Mauricio Vila Dosal, Governor of the state of Yucatan.
“We are in permanent communication with the industry to support all the necessary changes so that [come] September the Tianguis will have more buyers, in order to generate more jobs, more opportunities and a better quality of life for Yucatecans and Mexicans."
