Starting in 2019, river cruise line Avalon Waterways will introduce a new FlexDining program that will give its guests the option of dining when and where they want onboard.

FlexDining will offer guests the choice of eating at restaurants aboard Avalon’s ships, such as the casual sit-down Panorama Bistro or the al fresco Sky Grill or a four-course dinner in the glass-walled dining room. They will also have the choice of what kind of table they want to dine at, including a two-top table for couples or bar service on the Sky Deck.

Managing Director Pam Hoffee told TMR that the new dining options will add to the ways that guests can personalize their river sailing — and give travel agents more reasons to sell the product.

“The introduction of FlexDining in 2019 is just one of the many ways we’re inviting guests to cruise their way with Avalon Waterways," Hoffee told TMR.

“Showcasing our open-air balcony and beds facing the incredible views is the number one way travel agents market Avalon; and for 2019, they can invite their clients to customize their cruise to their own unique style, taste and pace with Avalon Choice® of excursions and our new FlexDining program, which provides a variety of times and places guests can enjoy meals.”

As part of the new program, Avalon will also offer picnic lunches for guests who want to take lunch onshore during the day.

Also next year, Avalon will launch its new “Choose Your Own Adventure” program that will allow guest to choose between Classic, Discovery, and Active options on all sailings. The Classic option will give guests the ability to tour cities and sites with a local guide; the Discovery option gets travelers engaged with activities in a destination, from cooking classes to painting workshops; and the Active option gets travelers out and about on energetic excursions, such as a jogging tour of Amsterdam.
