American Express has named Tanuj Suri to lead its travel agency representative network. Suri, who began his new role roughly two months ago, replaces Yana Carter Gutierrez, formerly vice president strategic partnerships for American Express Consumer Travel, who has left the company after five years overseeing the rep network.
Suri, who reports to Claire Bennett, executive vice president of American Express’ travel and lifestyle services, takes on his new responsibilities overseeing American Express’ agency franchise network as the company makes changes on the business travel side as well. American Express Global Business Travel earlier this month hired Doug Anderson, the former CEO of Carlson Wagonlit Travel, as its new CEO. He replaced Bill Glenn, who stepped down from the role this past spring.
Suri has served as vice president of premium customer experience and strategy, travel and lifestyle services for American Express since January 2015, overseeing premium travel servicing operations for the most valuable U.S. consumer card member segments. He also oversaw all American Express cruise- and tour-selling travel agents.
Previously he was vice president-customer insights and strategy, travel and lifestyle services, from January 2012 to January 2015. He also was vice president, strategic planning for American Express from February 2009 to December 2011. Prior to American Express, Suri was a consultant with Boston Consulting Group for four years.
